George III was the King of England

George III suffered from porphryia, a disease which affected his mind. He was rendered incapable for a short period during this year.

The Stamp Act was passed which eventually led to American War of Independence and eventually to the Declaration of Independence from England in 1776.  Opposition to the Stamp Act was so vehement that it was repealed in March 1766.

George Grenville was Prime Minister. George Grenville was the father of William Wyndham Grenville who in 1806 formed the “ministry of all the talents,” which abolished (1807) the slave trade.

James Watt develops Steam engine.
